Granite is a natural stone that has mostly been formed by magma. Different minerals result in the formation of different coloured granites. That causes one slab to vary in colour from the one side to the other that makes it unique. Granite is very popular for kitchen counter tops due to its aesthetic qualities and its high durability. It is also widely used for reception counters, bar tops, vanities, window sills, fire places and staircases.
Marble is a metamorphic rock resulting from regional or sedimentary carbonate rocks – either limestone or dolomite rock. Because of its formation marble is not a hard stone and therefore scratches easily and is very porous therefore not suitable for the kitchen.
Marble is used as a decorative material for mainly bathrooms and the entrance of the house.
Quartz stone is an engineered stone. It is available in a vast variety of colours and the variation on the stone is controlled. They are all scratch and heat resistant and stronger and more flexible than just granite. Caution should still be applied with this material.
